To obtain a private pilot certificate, a person must:
- Be at least 17 years old.
- Have a minimum of 40 hours of flight time.
- Must have a Class III medical exam performed by a FAA designated physician.
- Student pilots must show that they have satisfactorily completed the appropriate ground instruction or home study course and be recommended to take a computerized written test.
The written exam must be passed with a score of 70%.
- In the final stage before becoming a Private Pilot Certificate, a student must complete an oral exam and practical check-ride with an FAA examiner.
As a private pilot, you can fly solo or with passengers. You must pass a Class III medical exam every twenty-four calendar months.
